Me messing around (Improv )

So i have this etude idea i came up with the other day, and a friend of mine recorded it for me on cam. Sorry for the squeeky chair. Its an improv that kinda sputters out. The first part is supposed to be a little flashy.

Etude Idea

With new technology on hand i can now make this a greater vanity site than it already is-

I recently got a camera and a means to record myself on my keyboard. Heres an etude idea that i'm playing around with, posted on my youtube account. I think its technically challenging enough to be a real etude.

30 second improv

Me again. Making noise.

Monday, August 27, 2007

Also, my 30 some second frucked up version of music in a similar motion. and some random improv.

To be honest, the etude below is a little too adams-y for my tastes, a little too old-fashoned. Also, sorry for all the mistakes in the recording.

Oh well.

Messing Around

A Nocturne is what i want to call this , not because it is one, but because i think its a nice name. I'll hold the pretention for this second one, and call it what it is-

me messing around
some shit made with the same amazingly limited recording abilities
....again-

I wish i owned a synthesizer.

old improvs

This is a collection of old(er) improvisations, dating from the dustbin of history (2006) recordings that i felt were somewhat sub-par, so i havent published them until now, But i figure i've thrown worse things onto this blog than what im about to present. (they're not that bad, right?) Anyway, here they are:

Febimprov- On the electric piano, just some random stuff.
June3- This formless blob of somewhat contrasting sounds includes the addition of distortion fuzz from overloading the mic.
Feb2- This is my favorite of the three, and the least poor, i imagine. It changes character at the end.

So thats that for now. Still in Emrbun, taking the night train to paris tonight, and Im leaving for the States wednesday, I dont know when i'll be back to europe.

Aug 2006 improv, l'isle joyeuse(?)

Alright, not much news, im currently on vacation and am going to start traveling again in march. For the moment i will post this seriously piss-poor recording of a (thankfully) short excerpt from my own, uh, take on Debussy's classic piece l'isle joyeuse. (the french title sounds a lot more impressive than the happy island)

yesterday i listened to my handful of shitty-recorded improvisations that i've made over last summer and kept on this computer. Most of it is crap, but this one i think is mildly less crappy than the rest. Playing debussy beforehand helped, though i dont think theres a real resemblance between this music and debussy, maybe they're vaguely similar. It appears i have the remarkable ability of sustaining fff for excessive periods of time, which results in audio-overload for the recording device and lots of noise, but, uh... thats the fun of it.

Anyway, Here's the stuff im talking about.

Improvisation on a broken piano string

I recorded this a while ago (obviously before i left) and it was because one of my favorite notes, a low A string broke on my piano. Well, when life gives you lemons.... I FINALLY got it hosted (no thanks to ourmedia, which seems to be having technical problems and a nasty habit of completely wasting my time. Anyway, it was fun to play, hopefully when i get back i can get it fixed. There are actually two broken strings. The A flat plays sustained without pedal. I tried to eploit this here as well- and the sonority has changed, but i doubt that comes though in my shitty recordings. Anyway, more pictures of france!

Chateau Querais, Les Hautes-Alpes and Aix again.

Beauty in crude recordings?

well, maybe not beauty, but hopefully its not too boring. I just recorded myself playing on top of a recording of me playing on top a recording of an improvisation.* I like the results. Its in a very free cannon structure dominated by one 3 note theme.

*here is the first recording which is the basis of the whole thing.

Anyway, im just glad to be home!

swoosh.

June improv-

This was frustrating. I played a much better improvisation before recording this one only to find out the thing wasnt actually recording, but, patron saint of mediocrity that i am*, i am presenting this second and sub-par improvisation without hesistation.

*if you dont get this obvious reference, someone should throw a shoe at you.

Vanity

I always love feedback...and criticism is welcome, of course, so long as its more substantial than "i dont like".
M Keiser plays his well-loved piano.

I have finally made a recording this week, i did it earlier but didnt get it up on the web till now. Its a short improvisation, a little severe maybe, but still, very tonal and nothing avant-garde. If the piano sounds strange that'd be because its my very well-loved electric one i keep here in the dorm (all 88 keys with hammers!) . I hope i dont annoy my roommate too much with my noises . also... i used headphones with the volume turned up, placed next to the mic, so i couldnt really hear what i was doing so well. Also, i had to make sure the mic was on for the first sec so thats why im holding down the a for 5 seconds or so.

This, again, is not my best work, i could do better. Its just fun to do this, especially since its been so long that my actual mode of improvisation has changed. Also - i just recently (this week) found my old mic, so i figure i gotta put it to good use. There may be more of these posts, but if they get to be annoying just throw me a word and i'll stop.

And of course its mozarts B day, so i gotta say that. Other blogs have covered this ground many times already, but yes, we all love you wolfie, you've always been one of my favorites.
